The FSSAI, GST and municipal registrations a cloud kitchen needs before onboarding to a marketplace.

Onboarding a food business onto Swiggy, Zomato or a similar platform requires a specific stack of registrations before the marketplace will even activate a listing: an FSSAI registration or licence (state licence or central licence depending on turnover and scale), GST registration (mandatory for any e-commerce/marketplace seller regardless of turnover under Section 24 of the CGST Act), and — for a physical kitchen — the relevant municipal trade licence and, where applicable, a fire NOC.
Once live, a marketplace seller also needs to reconcile TCS deducted under Section 52 of the CGST Act against the monthly GSTR-8 the platform files, and increasingly needs e-invoicing once turnover crosses the notified threshold — both of these are easy to miss for a first-time cloud kitchen operator focused purely on the food side of the business.
Getting FSSAI and GST registration completed before applying to a marketplace, rather than mid-application, avoids the listing delays that come from a platform’s own compliance checks flagging missing registrations.
